Yahadut Hatorah Demanding The Same Distribution As Shas Receives

After Monday’s meeting with the Likud’s negotiating team, Yahadut Hatorah (YH) MKs met with their counterparts for another meeting during which they sought to hold the same level of positions as the Sephardic party after reaching agreements on most of their wish list.

Representatives of YH met on Tuesday for an additional session of negotiations with the Likud. Now the party is waiting for an answer from the Likud to its list of demands.

BeChadrei Chareidim reports learning that during the meeting, the teams on both sides discussed the positions and sought alternatives to suitable positions for YH members, apart from the health portfolio and control of the Finance Committee.

During the meeting, the representatives made it clear to the Likud that they were demanding the same positions they had received in Shas because they both had the same power base. YH officials reminded their counterparts that they did not demand ministerial posts and therefore had priority.

At the end of the meeting, MK Moshe Gafne refused to discuss the negotiations, but told the media that the discussions were continuing. Gafne refused to address the issue, which makes it difficult to conclude the final agreement when the draft law has not yet been finalized.

In YH it is explained that the reason for the continuation of the discussions, even though there is no conclusion on the topics of Chilul Shabbos, is the fear that these issues will be resolved at the last minute and then there will be no time to discuss the other issues.

Deputy Minister Yaakov Litzman said in a conversation with BeChadrei Chareidim that Yahadut Hatorah is awaiting the decisions of the Moetzas Gedolei Torah that “they alone will determine how to act.” According to Litzman, “we are still waiting for their response regarding the recruitment and Shabbos.”

In addition, YH is expected to meet on Wednesday at 10:00AM for further negotiations with the Likud negotiating team, after most of the issues have already been agreed upon, but the Likud has yet to respond to a number of issues that remain open.
