Hizbullah Remains King in S. Lebanon

Meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Washington, Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz, a former IDF chief of staff, explained that Hizbullah continues to control events in southern Lebanon. Mofaz stated despite the reported implementation of UN Resolution 1701 following the Second Lebanon War and despite the presence of an international peacekeeping force, the terrorists reign supreme.

Mofaz spoke of Israel’s growing concerns over Hizbullah’s autonomous authority along her northern border, citing how terrorists overrun the peacekeepers. Israel also documented the terror organization has doubled the number of long-range rockets positions along the border, additional cause for concern. Today, Hizbullah no longer operates clandestinely and the supply train is a direct one, from Syria directly to southern Lebanon, expediting the process, the senior minister went on to explain.

Israel has already documented the peacekeepers do not provide full reports regarding Hizbullah violations in southern Lebanon, despite the force’s mandate under 1701.
