One of the workers who spent more than an hour dangling from a scaffold at a New York City skyscraper is thanking his rescuers.

Steve Schmidt tells WABC ) that the firefighters and others who rescued him were “professional.” He adds: “Thanks a lot, guys.”

Schmidt was one of two workers who were stuck outside the 45th floor of the Hearst building in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday.

Fire department officials said rescuers cut open the glass on the 44th floor to reach the men.

Schmidt said he thought about his family during his ordeal. He said hours afterward he was still a little shaken up.
