VIDEO: Wine of the Week with Jay Buchsbaum – Goose Bay Sauvignon Blanc

Goose-Bay-Sauvignon-Blanc-Cap-medThis week I  want to talk about one of my favorite wines, Goose Bay Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.

Thirty or so years ago, most people were unfamiliar with sauvignon blanc as a standalone varietal (a component in white Bourdeaux and in many Sauternes blends it very rarely was called out on labels by name), but New Zealand changed all that in the 1980s when wineries started putting out delicious bold and refreshing sauvignon blancs that people were seeking out.

A great example of a typical New Zealand sauvignon blanc, Goose Bay’s offering is a light, crisp and refreshing wine with flavors and aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest, grass and hints of tropical fruits. At Shalosh Seudah I will be having this wine with my challah and fish.

Have a great Shabbes!

  1. This is a delicious wine. I have had it many times. It pairs very nicely with fish and cheese. However, I do not recommend an overly spicy meal with this wine, as it will overpower the taste of the wine. I would rate it 4+ out of 5 stars.
