The U.S. Justice Department says it would strongly endorse a court-appointed monitor to oversee changes at the New York Police Department if a judge were to find its stop-and-frisk practices unconstitutional.
The New York Times says the Justice Department filed papers late Wednesday in Manhattan federal court.
Closing arguments in the civil trial were held in May. The judge will decide in coming months whether any changes are needed in the NYPD’s practice of stopping, questioning and frisking people.
About a dozen witnesses testified that they were wrongly stopped.
The NYPD says there is no evidence of racial motivation in its use of the tactic.

It’s about time that all the politically correct people realize that the black man, Spanish person, and muslim are misbehaving a good portion of the time and need to be relieved from time to time of their contraband and weaponry. When this aim is achieved everybody is safer and better off.
No. 1: It was not so long ago – about 100 years, or even less – that the prevailing view among American gentiles was that Jews should not be allowed the freedoms of Christians or Americans because Jews did not respect the Christian deity or general societal requirements for honest dealing and good behavior. Your comment about black men, Spanish persons and Muslims is as unsound as the old attitude toward Jews, and probably stems from the same irrational prejudice.
When Moshiach comes, your attitude will not be a problem for anyone, but until then, you should keep your unfounded opinions to yourself.
