Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is throwing his political clout behind a former aide running in a competitive citywide race. Schumer is endorsing state Sen. Daniel Squadron in his bid for public advocate, The Daily News has learned.
“I’m supporting Daniel Squadron for NYC public advocate. Want to know why? One simple word: results. Daniel gets them,” Schumer wrote in a fundraising email to supporters Wednesday.
It’s a major coup for Squadron in the crowded Democratic race, which includes City Councilwoman Letitia James and former Wall Streeter Reshma Saujani.
Below is the language of the email, as obtained by YWN:
I want you to be the first to know. I’m supporting Daniel Squadron for NYC Public Advocate.
Want to know why? One simple word: Results. Daniel gets them. For us.
He has spent his career getting results for everyday New Yorkers: fighting corruption in Albany, writing landmark new gun laws, and improving everything from affordable housing to parks to public transportation.
But in order to win, Daniel will need support from New Yorkers like you. He doesn’t take money from corporations or PACs, so his grassroots campaign is fueled by small contributions — which are matched six-to-one by New York City’s public campaign financing system.
Contribute $25 or more to Daniel Squadron for New York City Public Advocate now and your contribution will be matched six-to-one.
Daniel is one of the smartest, hardest-working people I’ve ever worked with. I’ve seen Daniel get a lot done for everyday people in New York City as a State Senator:
· Daniel sponsored the bill that became New York’s assault weapons ban to get dangerous guns off our streets.
· Daniel won support for a new nurse-family partnership program to make sure every child gets off to the right start.
· And when Sandy came, it was Daniel that rolled up his sleeves and helped the people in his community get back on their feet.
I’m going to do everything I can to help Daniel become Public Advocate. Please join me.
Contribute $25 or more to Daniel Squadron for New York City Public Advocate today.
Daniel Squadron will make the Public Advocate’s office a more effective force for children, seniors, and regular families who need a voice in New York and results from City Hall. I hope you’ll make a contribution today.
Thank you for your support,
Chuck Schumer
