NYC: Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds, and Possible Flooding Thursday Morning – Friday Morning


weatherSummaryA strong area of low pressure is forecast to track across the United States and set-up southeast of Long Island tomorrow. This system is forecast to bring gusty winds, heavy rain, and minor coastal flooding to the New York City area. While scattered thunderstorms are possible, severe weather is expected to stay south of New York City. Rain will begin to impact the area 3:00AM Thursday morning and continue through 5:00AM on Friday morning. Rain is expected to be moderate-to-heavy at times, 2-4 inches of total rainfall is expected with isolated higher amounts.

Precipitation and Timing
Showers will develop around 3:00AM Thursday morning and continue through 5:00AM on Friday morning. The period of heaviest rain will be between 2:00PM Thursday and 2:00AM Friday morning. There is some uncertainty in the timing, and the heaviest rains may occur 3-6 hours earlier. Rainfall rates of 1-2”/hour are possible.
