An Israeli woman was killed and three other Israeli citizens were injured in a vehicular accident that occurred on Monday morning in Portugal, the Israel Foreign Ministry confirms. The families in Israel have been notified.
According to reports in the local media, the vehicle they were travelling overturned while driving on a highway near Lisbon. The injured were transferred to a hospital in the city, suffering from injuries of varying degrees of severity, and are receiving medical treatment. At the same time, the Foreign Ministry is working in cooperation with the local authorities to bring the body of the Israeli back home for kvura in Israel. The local police announced that the circumstances of the incident were being investigated.
Following the accident, the Israeli Consulate in Portugal, Hely Gal-Or, went to the hospital where the injured were hospitalized and helped them as needed.
The Foreign Ministry said that “the staff of the Israel Department abroad, in the Consular Section of the Ministry, has been following the difficult event from the beginning. We wish to express our condolences to the family of the deceased in the serious accident.”
