Rockland County Executive hopeful and current frontrunner, Ilan Schoenberger, recieved a boost with the endorsements of the Working Families and the Independence Parties.
At the official opening of Mr. Schoenberger’s campaign headquarters in New City on Sunday, Rockland Sheriff Lou Falco, Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack and Larry Weissman on behalf of the county Working Families announced their support of Schoenberger’s candidacy, New City Patch reports. According to his campaign staff, Rockland’s Independence Party has also endorsed Schoenberger with a formal announcement expected soon.
Falco said he backed Schoenberger because he listens and follows through. “Ilan’s slogan is ready to lead on Day One. It could also be Actions Speak Louder than Words. When you go to Ilan, he listens,” he said. “Ilan always steps up and does the right thing.”
“Ilan Schoenberger knows all our five towns, he knows all the villages and knows Rockland county government,” said Gromack. “I am yearning to have a County Executive that we can partner with, dealing with finances, dealing with drainage, talking about shared services. Ilan is a technician of County Government.”
Larry Weissman, a Working Families Party board member, noted that Schoenberger has been associated with the Working Families Party for a decade.
“We know that he’s for the little man, he’s for labor,” said Weissman. “That’s why he’s getting our line, that’s why we’re supporting him.”
“We face several big challenges coming up in Rockland County, the biggest one, of course, is the financial situation and deficit. I introduced a law that would require Rockland County to allocate at least $10 million per year, starting with our budget in 2014, towards deficit reduction,” said Mr. Schoenberger.
Ramapo Town Councilmen Pat Withers and Daniel Friedman also endorsed Schoenberger.
The other Democrats in the race are former Spring Valley Justice David Fried, Suffern Mayor Dagan Lacorte and Vladimir Leon. The general primary will be held on September 10 and the general election on November 5.
