Israel’s High Court Very Sympathetic to Including Women to Elect Chief Rabbis

israelThe High Court of Justice on Monday afternoon, 2 Tammuz 5773 expressed deep sympathy for the position seeking women’s representation among the voters for the new Chief Rabbis of Israel. The state is expected to respond within a week to explain what is taking place in the matter.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu supports the move and officials signal appropriate action will be taken to advance the legislation.

Women’s organizations are calling on the prime minister and Bayit Yehudi leader Minister Naftali Bennett to remove all obstacles to the bill to correct what they call “a historic injustice,” the absence of women in the body that elects the nation’s chief rabbis.
