In a detailed will, the Admor of Kaliv ZT”L of Eretz Yisrael, who was niftar this week, tells how his life was saved during the Holocaust, thanks to his father ZT”L, who was revealed to him in a dream.
The Admor describes, “When I was in the Warsaw ghetto, my father came to me in a dream and told me tomorrow they would ask who wishes to stay in the camp and who wants to leave? Tell them you wish to stay in the camp, and in the merit of remaining I remained alive. Every time I was in a time of trouble, I felt that the Rebbe my father and teacher was standing next to me.”
Telling of what he endured in the Holocaust, the Rebbe continues in the will, “About a week before Shavuos, we were led in cattle cars to be transported to Auschwitz. Every car was crammed with people as raw animals, without water or air, so we traveled for several days. My holy father-in-law was the only one whose beard was not cut, and he rapped it in a towel, as if he had a toothache, and thus hid the holy beard (דיקנא קדישא) from the eyes of the wicked.
“He took a Sefer Torah with him when he left his home and kissed the mezuzah. There is no doubt that in his absolute greatness, he knew he was going to the death of Kedoshim.
“It is impossible to describe the difficult experiences we experienced during the train journey to Auschwitz, but this will tell our contemporaries. During the trip, the SS ordered that anyone with valuables such as diamonds, gold, silver, jewelry, watches, etc., to hand them over. They wanted to have ‘you murdered and also inherited,’ (רצחת וגם ירשת ) and when the train passed through tunnels, threw the valuables out, so that they would not fall into the hands of the wicked.”
“When we got to Auschwitz, when we got out of the train, there were sharp stones, people fell on each other, many were killed and wounded. In the next stage we were separated. From then until the day of liberation, I did not hear about the Rebitzen.” On the last day of the war they brought her to Sweden. After the war ended, I sent a telegram that arrived at its destination six months later, announcing that I was arriving in Sweden the night before the telegram arrived. The Rebitzen A”H dreamed of Eliyahu HaNavi, who said to her: “Your name is Shifra Taub, your husband is alive”, he said.
At this stage, the Admor goes on to write “a few ways of life for my dear students,” as he calls them “to believe in HKBH in complete faith without any questions, for when questions are asked, they are punished.”
The Rebbe goes to daily life and pleads with his followers that everyone should be satisfied with what he has, not using checks or credit cards, which he says are the root of all evils, and has destroyed many families in Israel.
The Rebbe adds: “Every person must do soul searching every night, because by doing so, they are exempt from all the fines that were imposed on the person in the Heavenly Court.
The Rebbe continues to ask his followers to increase tzedaka to the poor and to be very careful not to humiliate anyone.
In addition, the Rebbe asked his followers to be very strict about kashrus issues when going to vacation in various places around the country.
Here the Rebbe goes to the younger generation and asks the parents to teach their children to learn Mishnah Brura. According to him, in the conversations he has with yeshiva talmidim, he finds that the yeshivos do not have sufficient halachic limud, and the matter is in terms of “the boy is gone and I am coming. (הנער איננו ואנא אני בא )”
At the end of his will, the Rebbe warns very much against anyone who is not appointed by him, who will try to make some change in one of his institutions, both in property and in the precious Sifrei Torah. And whoever does so warns the Rebbe, “his end will be bad and bitter.”
