The machlokes surrounding the Peleg-affiliated Tiferes Yaakov Talmid Torah continues, and at present, it appears that it will lead to the establishment of another talmid torah.
As reported earlier by YWN-Israel, the rabbonim serving on the Peleg Moetzas Gedolei Torah are divided, with HaGaon HaRav Azriel Auerbach and HaGaon HaRav Asher Deutsch are siding with demands by parents to establish a PTA and Vaad of the directors of the talmid torah, as well as backing the move by parents to stop paying tuition and placing the monthly payments in a third-party bank account.
Five Roshei Yeshiva, including HaRav Tzvi Friedman back the appointment of Rav Eliyahu Tumbak as principal. Rav Friedman feels at the start of the year, the parents committed to pay tuition and therefore, today, they have no right to withhold the money and that any parent not making tuition payments to the talmid torah no longer has the right to attend.
HaGaon Rav Deutsch and HaGaon Rav Auerbach however have come out openly backing the demands of the parents, leaving the rabbonim and the parents split. According to reports from parents, some of the children have already been informed they must leave the school, the children of those parents who have halted tuition payment.
A conference was held in Zvill Hall in Yerushalayim with the participation of some of the parents in opposition and the school’s administration.
The conclusions reached at the conference were presented to Rav Deutsch and Rav Auerbach, who decided on Wednesday morning to establish a talmud torah in Jerusalem, with the consent of the rabbis who support the talmid torah, because the main disagreement between the parents and the management is in the Jerusalem branch of the network.
Persons close to the unfolding events are quoted by Kikar Shabbos News that “an absolute majority of the members of the Moetzas Gedolei Torah, of whom we are subordinate, decided not to interfere with talmud torah administration. Eliyahu Tombak, who is moser nefesh in efforts to comply with HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach ZT”L, the founder of the talmid torah, and as a result parents began to rebel against the administration and not pay tuition.
“At the head of the institutions are our rabbonim, Rav Friedman, and with him most of the members of the council, who said that it is forbidden to cancel monthly payment orders and that the dedicated director should not be harmed.”
