A joyful trip to Israel for Pesach has turned to heartbreaking tragedy for a family from Monsey, New York. 3-year-old Baruch Eisenberg was struck and killed by a bus in Beitar Illit on Monday evening, Chol Hamoed.

The fatal accident took place at approximately 4:20PM on Chozeh M’Lublin Street. It appears the young boy was standing on the sidewalk and holding his mother’s hand, when he suddenly ran into the street and was struck by the bus.

Volunteers attempted to resuscitate the boy and initiated CPR. Unfortunately, after lengthy efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Longtime Magen David Adom member Chaim Bernstein was the first paramedic to arrive on the scene. Kikar HaShabbat reports that 3 years ago (on Erev Pesach), Bernstein himself had lost a 4-year-old daughter, Mali, in a similar accident on a nearby street in Beitar Illit.

Just after Pesach last year, he also responded to the scene in which a 6-year-old boy riding a bicycle was killed on the same Chozeh M’Lublin Street.

Bernstein reports the family had just celebrated young Baruch’s Upsherin haircut, and that his parents and siblings all witnessed the horrific accident.

Members of United Hatzalah’s Psychotrauma and Crisis Response Unit treated family members and bystanders who witnessed the accident.

The Levaya was held at 10:15PM (Israel time) at Shamgar in Yerushalayim, with Kevura on Har HaMenuchos.
