The snowy Mount Hermon site was painted white on Sunday morning, the first day of Chol Hamoed Pesach in Israel, having placed a fresh coat of white powder on the ski resort. The temperature was reportedly 0C (32F).
This was the first time snow fell on Pesach on the Hermon in 22 years.
Despite efforts to open the site to visitors on Sunday, security safety concerns prevented this and the site remained closed.
On Sunday afternoon, 20cm (7.8 inches) of snow accumulated since motzei Shabbos. “We are meriting a dose of surprise snow on the site, but the safety of visitors is above all. The veteran employees do not remember such significant snowfall during Pesach, at the end of April, compelling the closure of the site” explained the director of the ski resort, Alon Friedman.
