Boro Park Shomrim: Five Arrests Made In Three Incidents This Week

bp shomrim1.jpgIncident #1: Boro Park Shomrim, along with the NYPD’s 66th PCT, were on patrol last night, in an attempt to catch a burglar who has broken-into approximately 10 stores in the past two months. The burglar was known to break into stores without gates, by simply smashing the windows. He would then take the register drawer and flee on a bicycle.

There were Shomrim units positioned throughout Boro Park – on all Avenue blocks – while NYPD units were in contact via two-way radios.

At approximately 1:00AM last night, Boro Park Shomrim witnessed a person attempting to break into the Blueberry Fruit Store on 18th Avenue & 53rd Street.

Shomrim units sprang into action, and apprehended the perpetrator. NYPD units arrived seconds later, and arrested the man (of Spanish descent) without further incident.

Incident #2: At approximately 3:00AM on Wednesday night, Shomrim’s 24hr hotline received a phone call. The caller told the dispatcher that there is noise coming from a new home under construction.

Shomrim units arrived at the location, and in fact heard saws being used. The home was surrounded, and Shomrim units entered the home.

They witnessed two men operating saws, and cutting out copper piping from the walls. In the words of a Shomrim coordinator: “these guys were there for hours before we got the phone call”.

The two perpetrators attempted to flee the home, and Shomrim chased one of the men on foot until he was apprehended, while the other man was apprehended on a 2nd floor scaffold. The NYPD was on the scene in minutes, and arrested the men without further incident.

Incident #3: Shomrim units on a routine patrol last night witnessed two teenagers walking the streets of Boro Park, and spray-painting graffiti on various signs. Shomrim units apprehended them on 65th Street near 20th Avenue, where they were arrested by the NYPD.

Just another two reasons to be thankful to the dedicated members of Boro Park Shomrim, who place their lives on the line each day to protect YOUR streets!

  1. Dear Shomrim Members & Your Families,
Thank you for giving up precious hours of sleep and whatever to keep our streets safe. You are all doing a great job!

    Thanks a million.

  2. I thank you for your service, but PLEASE STOP PUTTING YOURSELF AND FAMILY at needless risk by trying to apprehend suspects that can very easily be armed. Why couldn’t you just surround the house and wait for police as opposed to apprehending perps who had electric saws. C’V a family should lose a father over such stupidity.
