Police say an 11-year-old girl was shot in the neck and seriously injured while walking out of a home in Brooklyn, and a 17-year-old boy has been arrested.
The New York Police Department says a gunman walking down a street in Bedford-Stuyvesant opened fire at two men standing outside a residence on Friday night. That’s when the girl walked out of the nearby home and was struck by a bullet.
Police say she was taken to Kings County Hospital, where she underwent surgery. She is recovering at Columbia University Hospital.
Police say a surveillance camera captured an image of the suspect, who lives on the street and was known to members of their anti-crime unit. They canvassed the area, spotted the suspect and took him into custody.
Police say he faces charges of attempted murder, assault, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
