Lapid Remains Firm Regarding Sanctions – DM Ya’alon Warns of the Consequences

idffWhile Finance Minister (Yesh Atid) Yair Lapid continues threatening to topple the coalition over the share the burden issue; the induction of chareidim into the military, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon continues to warn Lapid and his colleagues.

Lapid is tenacious in demands that draft violators, namely bnei yeshivos failing to report for service, will be in violation of the penal code and will be held personally responsible. Lapid insists the issue of personal responsibility and consequences is secured in the coalition agreements and there is no place for compromise.

Ya’alon states this is not the way to go, warning that continued efforts to compel such a reality on the chareidi tzibur will not achieve the desired change, but it will lead to the destruction of Nachal Chareidi, which he explains is the result of dialogue and gradual change. Ya’alon calls for lowering the tone and that statements regarding a chareidi draft not be fueled by hate.

Ya’alon stated the issue of personal responsibility is a non-starter from his perspective, and it has already ignited the chareidi tzibur. He advises proceeding with wisdom and to seek mutual agreement instead of attempting to compel new realities that will not be successful.

  1. Yesh Atid’s goal is to destroy the Hareidi community for fear it will grow and turn Israel is a too Jewish state.

Likud’s goal is to preserve the military abilities of the State of Israel, and to make sure the State of Israel survives as a Jewish state. Note that he realizes that a full scale war against the Hareidim will underine the Nahal Hareidi (and other Hareidim serving in the IDF).

Bayit Yehudi isn’t quite sure what it wants anymore.

The Hareidim wish to be left along to learn Torah and do mitsvos without getting hassled.

Doesn’t this Talmudical evaluation perfectly describe Lapid and his allies? Things haven’t changed throughout the centuries.

  3. Ya’alon is a smart military man. Why isn’t the Prime Minister backing him up? Too bad Uzi Landau is not the Prime Minister. As YWN reported earlier, Bibi is AWOL.
