Iran Insists It Did Not Hack Into Benny Gantz’s Phone

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi

Iran on Wednesday issued statements to the media denying recent reports in Israel that it hacked into the smart phone of Benny Gantz, a former IDF Chief of Staff, and the current head of the Blue and White party. Israel’s News12 last week reported that Iranian intelligence had succeeded in hacking into his phone and the follow-up report stated no sensitive security information was contained on that phone.

His opponents have used reported hacking against Gantz in the upcoming election, as he is setting his eyes on the premiership, hoping to unseat Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

In the latest report pertaining to the hacking matter, Tehran is vehement in its denial stating emphatically it did not hack into the former IDF commander’s phone. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bahram Qasemi told reporters in Israel that Israel is “fabricating various kinds of irrelevant claims to create a hostile atmosphere against Iran.”

Just this week, MK Amir Ochana a member of the Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee’s Subcommittee on Intelligence & Secret Services, called for the committee to convene in urgent session, as reported by YWN-Israel. Ochana and some of his colleagues fear confidential classified information may have been hacked by the Iranians.
