This is a historical thread to discuss who built Orthodox America after the war, whether or not you agree with their approach. I have,( zt”l zy”a to all those it applies to, add in to your preference):
Satmar Rebbe
Lubavitcher Rebbe
Rav Aharon Kotler
Rav YB Soloveitchik
Rav Moshe Feinstein
Rav Aharon Kotler with Torah, the Satmar Rebbe with Chasidus and Rav Moshe Feinstein with Halacha are the three pillars that built the Torah community in postwar America from the ashes of churban Europe in a barren America that had a terribly weak prewar Judaism.
The Lubavicher Rebbe did not just re-build in the US, Chabad Houses are (almost) everywhere, if you are stuck in China, you know there is a chabad there
Those were the biggest and most well-known, but I am of the opinion that it was a combination of all the European gedolim in post-WWII American that built the foundations of modern Yiddishkeit. Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky ZT”L, Rav YY Ruderman ZT”L, Rav SF Mendelovitch ZT”L, and Rav Breuer ZT”L were also hugely influential and we would not have American Yiddishkeit as we know it without them.
YTV, YCB, YOB “existed”. And even they were not comparable to the European yeshovos. But even those prewar American yeshivos were drops in the bucket of prewar American Jewry where the vast majority of the American Jewish youth — even those that were Orthodox affiliated — were mostly going to public schools. And from public school mostly going OTD.
