Incident #1: On a routine patrol at approximately 3:00AM last night, Williamsburg Shomrim noticed a person climbing through a window of the Klausenberg Bais Medrash on Lee Avenue, between Hooper and Hewes Streets. Additional backup was called, and the building was surrounded by Shomrim and NYPD units.
The NYPD ESU was called to enter the building to conduct a “perp search”, but unfortunately, they came up empty handed. The NYPD units left, but the dedicated members of the Shomrim Patrol didn’t.
Sure enough, the perpetrator was spotted on the roof of the Bais Medrash. Shomrim units climbed up, and the perp then attempted to flee by jumping onto another roof – 25 feet below the roof he was on. His jump was successful, except that he now had a broken leg from his “hard fall”.
Shomrim kept the man from trying to move again, and called NYPD and EMS to respond. The man was then transported to Bellevue Hospital – and the Tzedakah stolen from three Pushkas was retrieved back to the Bas Medrash.
Incident #2: Earlier this week at approximately 1:45AM, Shomrim units conducting routine patrols spotted a forklift driving around the quiet streets of Williamsburg. WSPU units proceeded to follow the forklift which soon started driving very aggressively, and then started banging into multiple parked cars. After numerous attempts to stop the driver, a plan was put into place – and the forklift was brought to a stop, after many cars were all banged up. The two men sitting on the forklift then jumped off and Shomrim proceeded to chase them on foot.
After a long foot pursuit – involving two dozen Shomrim units, they were safely apprehended – and the NYPD arrived and placed them under arrest. After transporting the perps to the 90th PCT, the NYPD determined that both men were highly intoxicated, and knives were found on both their possessions.
Just another two reasons to be thankful to the dedicated members of Williamsburg Shomrim, who place their lives on the line each day to protect YOUR streets!
