3 Nachal Chareidi Soldiers Convicted of Assaulting Palestinians in Their Custody

Three additional Nachal Chareidi soldiers were convicted of assaulting Palestinian prisoners in their custody by the Jaffa military court on Thursday, as part of a plea bargain agreement.

The three admitted to their actions, with the plea bargain stipulating they will serve a 6.5-month prison sentence as well as being demoted to the rank of private. Sentencing is to take place next week.

Other soldiers from Nachal Chareidi (Netzach Yehuda) have already completed their trials, signing the same plea bargain agreement, as reported.

The soldiers were still recovering from the deaths of two of their comrades, killed in the Givat Assaf terror attack when they were expected to watch over the suspects believed connected to the attack. Soldiers Yuval Mor Yosef HY”D and Yossi Cohen HY”D were killed in the attack and a third member of their unit critically wounded.

The mothers of the combatants who were arrested sent a letter to former IDF Chief Eizenkott, explaining that they were placed in an untenable situation considering the events leading to the situation, in which they were guarding the Palestinians in custody, stating in their letter, “In recent weeks, they lost Sergeant Yosef Cohen and Sergeant Yuval Mor Yosef, members of the company, in a series of events, and even dealt with the injury of two others. If there were mistakes in their activity or discretion, the military establishment knew, to examine all the considerations, to look at the broad picture, and at the end of the day to behave in a decent and proper manner with its fighters, the best of its sons.”

  1. I’v actually heard of a different justification from the soldiers mothers, that they were very likely traumatized from the incident of there friends, and the IDF should have brought a psychiatrist to evaluate them and make sure they are mentally healthy, and therefore its very possible that they didn’t act out of brutality.
