Interestingly, when former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was indicted, then Opposition Leader Binyamin Netanyahu told the media that he believes Olmert has to resign, explaining under such a situation, he has no moral mandate to continue serving in office. “We are dealing with a prime minister who is up to his neck in criminal cases”, Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu added that Olmert would be preoccupied with the investigations against him, and therefore he must step down, adding, with the weight of criminal prosecution hanging above him, he may not make decisions that are in the best interest of the nation, but he may place his own personal considerations ahead of the nation.
The following video shows Mr. Netanyahu explaining just why PM Olmert should step down from office.

Except everyone and their grandmother saw the reason Olmert was guilty, and Netanyahu had a cigar from his neighbor
It’s the old story.. You are quick to criticize others and are blind to your own similar plight because on your own you ALWAYS have excuses of defense , whereas by others you are not interested in creating such excuses!!! “AIN ODOM CHOTEI. VELOI. LOI!!!!!!
The circumstances were not comparable despite their seemingly apparing similar.
And besides, the current security situation simply cannot see an administration change. It’s very volatile times.
Political rule applicable in all democracies: If my party’s candidate is indicted, it is a mere accusation. If my opponent is indicted, he is obviously a crook. NO HIDDUSH HERE.
Macro-wise this site is fairly balanced and take no issues with this story being headlined .
As an important side note , yiddin in general should take into account 2 facts when faced with Netanyahu’s predicament .
A) Innocent till proven guilty. And that’s not simply an American Jurisprudence yediya.
The fact that he didn’t show that same courtesy to Olmert is a non-issue for me .
N-yahu was wrong . Nekama and “what’s good for the goose” is not a Torah principle .
B) Hakaras Hatov- N-yahu fought through his formidable prime years ( while most of us were fighting for the better piece of Kugel at the kiddush ) risking his life for Am Yisrael.
As PM ,there’s no doubt he’s saved countless yiddishe lives based on his pragmatic tough stance on security issues .
All pontificators should keep those 2 in mind when playing judge and executioner .
Wikipedia quotes Olmert as follows:
” If Attorney General Meni Mazuz, decides to file an indictment, I will resign from my position, even though the law does not oblige me to do so.”
So for that alone it is obvious that Olmert had to resign (and it was correct to call for his resignation). I have found no such public declaration by Netanyahu.
“This election is a contest between two sharply competing visions for Israel. Many consider it to be the state’s most important election ever”
That this would be a subtitle of a headline should be worrying, even paralyzing. Facts are there is but little daylight on Security between Gantz/Lapid &Co vs Netanyahu.
So therefore they are referring to the religious traditional tones and sentiments of Israel [the enormous elephant in the room].
Therefore what choice do we have?!
However this underlines a different problem. As opposed to the old Labour, Likud was supposed to be straighter, more propriety. For Machane Leumi to fully back him and ignore the indictment while it would be socio-politically necessary of utmost necessity, still will it be cause more damage in the long run? Might it cause a subversion of their very identity?
oy, you think Netanyahu is motivated by yashrut, not personal interest? more self-centered than KK!!! 🙂
