According to security officials, the security situation at Kever Rochel continues to deteriorate over recent months. In the past two months, there were 200 incidents involving firebombs and 90 attacks involving the placement of explosives.

The alarming statistics were presented to members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee during a session held on Monday, 11 Sivan 5773, addressing the situation at Kever Rochel and the sharp increase in rock-throwing attacks at mispallalim.

Officials explained to committee members that while there were many more attacks, the high walls surrounding the holy site protected visitors from attack in the overwhelming majority of attacks.

MK (Yahadut Hatorah) R’ Meir Porush explained that he has received mail from many constituents who documented attacks and expressed their concerns. Porush is calling on appropriate agencies to act before there is a catastrophic incident at the site chas v’sholom.

In a somewhat related matter, the number of attacks against Jewish motorists throughout Yehuda and Shomron has risen sharply as well in recent months. The following video shows a firebomb being hurled at a police car at Ofra Junction earlier this week. The video was captured by a yishuv security camera. B’chasdei Hashem, the incendiary device missed its intended target.
