Israel Returns Fire Following Another Cross-Border Incident from Syria


idftankn.jpgOnce again, cross-border gunfire from Syria struck and IDF vehicle, the IDF Spokesman’s Office confirmed on Tuesday morning, 12 Sivan 5773. The gunfire struck a vehicle operating near the Golan Heights border. B’chasdei Hashem there were no injuries.

Israel feels the gunfire was intentional and not accidental spill over from fighting between government and rebel forces in Syria. The IDF responded to the gunfire with Tammuz missiles following the attack, the third this week.

Following the Monday night shooting attack, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz visited the area, accompanied by the northern district commander, who briefed him on troop preparedness along the border.

Syrian Army officials released a message via state-run television on Tuesday that it fired into Israel after IDF soldiers crossed the international border.

Israel issued a denial in response to Syrian claims that it destroyed a military vehicle. The IDF Spokesman’s Unit confirmed a vehicle was hit, but not “destroyed” by Syrian gunfire.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon released a statement reiterating that Israel is uninvolved in the ongoing civil war but it will not tolerate gunfire across the border into Israel.
