Suspect in Custody For Murder Committed in Israel 26 Years Ago

During recent months, police investigators in the Jerusalem district have been carrying out covert investigative activities in light of advanced technological developments that have been under way for a number of years by the Israel Police.

Following their review of evidence and findings found in the scene of the murder in 1993, a significant breakthrough was recorded in the investigation file that led to the identity of the murder suspect.

The police investigators identified and arrested the suspect Valery Skowitz, 64, when he was living in a hostel in central Jerusalem, after he had been abroad for 23 years and returned to Israel in 2018.

During the questioning of the suspect, which was accompanied by the State Attorney’s Office, evidence was gathered linking him to the perpetration of the offenses attributed to him in 1993.

The suspect was brought before the Jerusalem magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for an arraignment and asking the court to hold him without bail. He is going to be indicted for the offenses attributed to him, including murder and other serious offenses.
