A delegation of Peleg Yerushalmi-affiliated rabbonim who traveled to the United States met with the Satmar Rebbe of Williamsburg Shlita. The visiting delegation includes members of the Peleg Moetzas Gedolei Torah, HaGaon HaRav Azriel Auerbach Shlita and HaGaon HaRav Baruch Shmuel Deutsch Shlita.
The rebbe met them, wishing them much success in the recent “Yizkor Ahavaso” (“יזכור אהבתו”) to raise funds for Peleg mosdos marking the yahrzeit of the founder, HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach ZT”L.
The rabbonim used the opportunity to personally thank the rebbe for his staunch backing in recent years, especially for the Peleg institutions which has ceased accepting state aid, which in many cases has been replaced by Satmar under the ‘Shekel Tahor’ plan, rewarding yeshivos who do not accept assistance from the Zionist State.
Rav Azriel Auerbach explained to the rebbe in detail how Rav Shmuel Auerbach toiled to build institutions that would be truly independent of the state’s influence, adding that today, it is clear to all just how correct the rav was in foreseeing the situation and how today, officials in the Ministry of Education are interfering in the curriculum of schools in chareidi institutions.
HaRav Yitzchak Stern, a prominent member of Satmar, spoke to the rabbonim and gave his testimony regarding how Rav Auerbach ZT”L worked tirelessly for the establishment of mosdos that would be totally cut off from state influence and dependence.
The rabbonim also discussed ongoing efforts to draft both men and women into the IDF, and the ongoing battle to avoid any compromise in this area too.
The rebbe thanked the rabbonim for their visit, escorting them to their vehicle. After the visit, the rabbonim returned home to Eretz Yisrael after a week in the United States.
