Students at Oberlin College in Ohio recently passed a divestment resolution against the Middle East’s sole democratic state. The college is a liberal arts institution situated in Oberlin. In a press release, Oberlin College Students for a Free Palestine noted that a majority of the student senate passed the resolution after a three-hour debate.
The resolution calls for the divestment of Hewlett-Packard, Caterpillar, Veolia, Elbit Systems, G4S and SodaStream, companies representing “a wide range of injustices perpetrated on the Palestinian people by Israel.” Next semester students plan to take the resolution to Oberlin College Board of Trustees’ Finance Committee, and to urge the latter to adopt the policies outlined in the resolution.
Among the sponsors of the resolution were the Student Labor Action Coalition, Mexican American Students Association, La Alianza Latina, South Asian Students Association, and the Oberlin Queer Wellness Coalition.

Yeah Oberlin, boycott them. And here is a partial listing of the items you use everyday invented in Israel which you should stop using now that you’re boycotting Israel
The cell phone was developed in Israel by Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel.
Most of the Windows NT operating system was developed by Microsoft-Israel.
The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel.
Voice mail technology was developed in Israel.
Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel.
The AOL Instant Messenger was developed in 1996 by four young Israelis.
A new acne treatment developed in Israel, the ClearLight device, produces a high-intensity, ultraviolet-light-free, narrow-band blue light that causes acne bacteria to self-destruct – all without damaging surroundings skin or tissue.
An Israeli company was the first to develop and install a large-scale solar-powered and fully functional electricity generating plant, in southern California’s Mojave desert.”
All the above while engaged in regular wars with an implacable enemy that seeks its destruction, and an economy continuously under strain by having to spend more per capita on its own protection than any other country on earth. This from a country just 55 years young having started off life on a very frontiers-like basis, whose population had mostly just emerged from the devastating World War II years.
So go ahead and stop using their products.
sounds like a bunch of left wing radicals to me , so why should we expect any better from them.
Oberlin is know for being very trendy, and very politically correct – and also does not have a large endowment. It should also be noted that the student association has nothing to do with how the endowment is invested. In fact, virtually all multi-national corporations do business with Israel, in no small part since the United States threatened sanction against those who don’t (not to mention the Israelis allowed Israeli companies to pirate the IP of companies boycotting Israel).
“Oberlin Queer Wellness Coalition”: is it appropriate for YWN to print the name of that organization?
