Sullivan County residents will soon be able to receive emergency notifications about flooding or other problems once the county completes its tie-in with the E-Alert notification system.
The program will allow residents to receive e-mail or telephone notifications about severe weather or other concerns and the county is moving toward that goal, said county E-911 Coordinator Alex Rau.
“We’ve have been sending some test messages to a test group. It has been working well,” he said. “In theory, if we had to blast out an emergency notification by telephone, we do have that capability.”
The county still has some issues to resolve, including privacy laws and the fact that Sullivan is served by more than one telephone company.
