Bituach Leumi Chief Warning Regarding Proposed State Budget

poor.jpgBituach Leumi (National Insurance Institute) Director-General Professor Shlomo Mor-Yosef told the media on Tuesday 27 Iyar 5773 that something must be done to protect families in light of the proposed state budget and its many cuts.

Mor-Yosef warns that if the proposed cuts are approved, over 40,000 families will join the ranks of the nation’s poor and many families already living below the poverty line will have to endure additional hardship. Mor-Yosef insists that if the budget cuts are passed, a state agency will have to find a formula to compensate poor families in some way, for many will no longer be able to exist.

“Already today the families living under the poverty line are barely making it. With additional cuts, including monthly child allowance payments, increasing value added tax and eliminating other supplemental income payments, they will no longer be able to survive,” Prof, Mor-Yosef warns.
