Litzman’s Private Anti-Discrimination Bill

litzmanIn response to the boycott against the chareidi parties in the coalition negotiations that led to the establishment of the current government, MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Rabbi Yaakov Litzman is sponsoring a private bill that prohibits discriminating against an entire sector of society. The bill seeks to amend the current penal code by adding the word “boycott” along with the existing word “discriminate” in reference to any sector of the country. This would make such action illegal and punishable under the nation’s penal code, carrying a prison term of up to ten years if convicted.

Litzman feels there is no place in a civil modern society for such actions, compelling him to sponsor the bill to declare the boycotting of an entire segment of the nation illegal.

Litzman admits that the place of chareidi elected officials in the coalition or opposition is a political mission, however he feels an announced boycott of an entire sector, in this case the chareidim, simply because they are who they are, “’chareidim with beards and peyos’ as certain members of the current coalition explicitly stated, this is a serious phenomenon which may not be tolerated and its reoccurrence must be prevented through legislation” Litzman explains.

  1. Was it discrimination, racism or a new government agenda that did not fit the Charedim’s goals? Was it discrimination to Shelly Y. of Labor and the ARABS who were never considered as partners in a government coalition, also?

  2. 1. Publicity stunt.

    2. The government would hold that frum Jews not participating in secular society is an illegal boycott, whereas secular Jews boycotting frum Jews is a legitimate act due to the inherent evil of frumkeit – and remember whose courts enforce the laws.

  3. as a charadi who works in Israel, I have experienced more discrimination here than in the US of A. How about putting that in the bill too?

  4. Hiring quotas in favor of Haredim should be imposed on government agencies and publicly traded corporations.

  5. Litzman who has the last word in the Hamodia newspaper behave in the mosy discriminating manner when he doesn’t allow to mention the names of those he doesn’t favor, for example, machnovke, reb mendel of vitnitz, slanim and more
Sorry to say, but he is a hypercrite
