Israelis and Milk Consumption

tenuvaAs Shavuos approaches Israel’s dairy council releases some interesting facts regarding the nation and its milk consumption.

The council states that Israel’s dairy cows lead the world in milk production, averaging 11,700 liters annually per cow.

The average Israeli consumes less milk that Americans or Scandinavians, but more than the Japanese. The average Israeli consumes 900 cups annually, over 180 liters – one third as liquid milk and the remainder in the form of cheeses, yogurts and the like.

The council reports a 2.4% increase in local consumption in 2012 while the population increased by 1.8%, resulting in a modest increase in consumption per person.
