Five bnei yeshiva on Tuesday afternoon 20 Iyar 5773, were taken into custody for attacking plainclothes police detectives in the Kiryat Moshe area of the capital. According to reports, the youths, talmidim at Merkaz HaRav walked outside and heard the two men, non Jews, speaking Arabic between themselves. (By the police report regarding the ages of the suspects it appears they are referring to high school students).
They went back into the building and reemerged with teargas a short time later, spraying the two, who happened to be undercover policemen. The policemen were able to apprehend some of the youths despite the assault and while one did manage to flee, four were taken into custody. The policemen were reportedly in good condition and their injuries are described as light.

And if they were real terrorists, what would they have done to those children playing at being cops? Is there some element missing from the report? Why wouldn’t the kids gone to one of the security guards at the yeshiva and called the police?

Why where the police speaking arabic? After reading the article about the guy who takes care of the kever of shimon hatsdik and the massacre that happened in Merkaz a few years ago I am not sure why they shouldn’tbe careful. And feel threatened by any arsb in the area.

For the record, Mercaz HaRav is not a charedi yeshiva but one of the leading Religious Zionist yeshivot in Israel. The students are lucky that the police did not treat them like terrorists, which is what they deserved.

Arabic is one of the official languages of Medinat Yisrael. Many Arabs serve in the police and IDF, protecting Jews from terrorists, including these ungrateful louts who don’t seem to have learned anything from their years of study.
based on the history of the terrorist attack at Merkas HaRav, sending Arab undercover agents there who look and speak Arabic in public does not seem an intelligent move on the part of the police.

Aren’t we all full of praise for those Arabs who participate and integrate within Israeli society? Instead of joining the police, would you rather see them become stone throwers?
Even without being police officers, each and every Arab citizen/resident of Israel has the fullest right to walk anywhere he wants. They have the same rights as everyone else.
#2 and #3 should be ashamed of themselves. Jake sks “why were the police speaking Arabic” – well, for your information, Arabic is an official language of the State of Israel. (Unlike English, French, or Yiddish.) There is no reason at all why anyone should not feel comfortable speaking Arabic anywhere in Israel.
I will readily admit that I myself also tend to feel a bit uncomfortable around Arabic-speakers in Israel when I haven’t got a clue what they’re up to – you never know whether they’re saying “I need coffee” or “where is the button to detonate my bomb vest”. But I recognize that is MY problem, not theirs. Arabic is their language, they live in Israel, and their language is an official recognized language. (And even if it were not, that doesn’t make your attitude any less problematic. Can you imagine people in NYC calling the police every time someone speaks Yiddish or Hebrew?)
What’s your point ajewishjew? That if someone doesn’t wear the same kippa and white shirt, it shows what about their limud Torah?
These Behemos should feel the full weight of the law. Just because 2 people were speaking Arabic is no reason to attack them.

Ben Yeshiva (the term the article used initially) implies someone with greater maturity than a high school student. The boys in question acted in a manner that suggests they were acting their age, and thus perhaps a word that implies less maturity than “Ben Yeshiva” is appropriate.
Ignore the argument that there are many reasons an Arab could legitimately be in Kiriyat Moshe. Assume they really were terrorists (and if they were anything other than terrorists, attacking them was clearly unjustified).
Spraying the “terrorists” would not have led to the boys being arrested – it would have led to them being killed. Terrorists tend not to have a sense of humor. When annoyed, they don’t “bust” you. As they were in a place with high security, they should have contacted a security guard or called the police.
