Israel: Fire Chief Turns to Rabbonim and Askanim

isfdIsrael Fire Chief Shachar Ayalon on Tuesday 20 Iyar 5773 called on the tzibur to reduce the number of bonfires on Lag B’Omer. “We have exceeded the limits of good taste” he exclaimed, adding “I am going to turn to the rabbis and leaders of the chareidi community to set guidelines and limits for the fires.”

Ayalon told the media that for the past days there have been too many fires in addition to those caused by the heat-wave and there is a need to set limits regarding the size of fires permitted for Lag B’Omer. He feels some of the Lag B’Omer fires were too large and too high, beyond what should be permitted.

  1. Good luck,, do not believe that there will be a change in the bonefires, the air-comfort level will be blamed on the “TZioni Government” and its new MKS.

  2. They don’t care. Speaking from past experience, the rabbonim will completely ignore any such requests. I hate to say it, but the majority of frum kids in Israel are completely out of control and are extremely reckless. Around Sorotzkin there are numerous fires every year caused by very frum kids from very good families. Same in many other places.

And then we haven’t even spoken about the ‘fun’ game of throwing animals into the fire.
