The city Department of Buildings says it has issued almost 900 safety violations and over $950,000 in fines as part of a two-month inspection of low-rise building construction sites.
The agency said Monday that inspectors looked over 920 sites around the city as part of the sweep. Low-rise buildings go up to no more than nine stories.
Inspectors issued violations for a number of causes, including work being done without proper permits and missing equipment like fences, guardrails and fire extinguishers.
The agency issued 34 full Stop Work orders and 75 partial Stop Work orders as part of the sweep.
The results were announced as part of the department’s Construction Safety Week.
