The ISA (Israel Security Agency/Shin Bet) has announced it will stop providing security for MKs traveling abroad, but the responsibility for their safety will rest on the shoulders of the Knesset Guard. According to the Yisrael Hayom report on Tuesday, to date, the ISA was responsible for the task, but this will no longer be the case.
According to the report, the Knesset administration held a series of discussions on the matter, and the decision was made taken within the framework of the policy adopted in recent years, according to which the Knesset must act independently and not be assisted by the services of the various government ministries.
As part of this policy, several new divisions were established. The Legal Bureau, the International Wing, and the Center for Research and Information was expanded. It was decided that in the area of security the Knesset must act independently, and therefore a special unit must be established in the Knesset Guard to deal with this.
