In his Haaretz blog, Eyal Megged launches a venomous attack against Minister of Agriculture (Bayit Yehudi) Uri Ariel, under the headline “Ariel’s G-d is a Butcher”, appearing on January 1, 2019.

Megged does not stop here, but also compares the minister to the infamous Adolph Eichmann YM”S, writing Ariel is the “Eichmann of animals” and also drawing an analogy from the dark period, all in the name of animal rights.

Ariel decided not to sit back and take the insult, but he is calling on Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit to open an investigation against Megged for violating law prohibiting incitement, stating it is clear that Megged has exceeded the boundaries of freedom of expression.

It is added that Ariel is a child of a Holocaust survivor and is quite aware of the horrors of the infamous Third Reich, and for an Israeli journalist to dare to take a comparison to such an extreme, even a left-winger against a right-winger, and a ‘prominent’ newspaper accepting it for publication, can only leave on wondering just what the acceptable Israeli norms really are.
