Bnei Brak Councilman Yechezkel Shapira on Monday evening surprisingly submitted his resignation following a city council meeting.
However, Bnei Torah party officials report the move was planned in advance and done in coordination with the party’s rabbonim shlita. A Degel Hatorah source is quoted telling Kikar Shabbos News that the resignation was caused by disagreement between party colleagues on the city council, but Bnei Torah officials deny this was the case. Michael Elmaliach is expected to fill the slot, a Sephardi representative of Bnei Torah.
Shapira announced his resignation during the meeting and the letter was read aloud by Mayor Avraham Rubinstein.

Now for the truth: He never intended to stay for long. He only agreed to join the party list so as to provide a more honorable mention to the list.
He was supposed to resign 2 weeks ago, but it took a while to find someone willing to take him over.
