Non-Profits Collapsing Due to Pesach Demand

Representatives of the growing number of non-profit organizations seeking to feed Israeli poor admit they are collapsing under the increasing demand before the week-long Pesach holiday.

Despite their efforts, they admit there is no way they can meet the need, stating painfully, many will go hungry this Pesach despite their best intentions.

There are growing calls for the national government to begin fulfilling its responsibility rather than throw the burden of feeding the nation’s poor for Pesach on the charitable organizations.

One major bone of contention is government ministers have just approved spending NIS 100 million on 60th anniversary celebrations, a sizable sum that could make a significant difference in the quality of the upcoming Yom Tov for many families.

  1. Rather than asking the frei tzioni government for money, why not turn to the predominantly, if not, exclusively, frum population which is fressing at hotels for several thousand dollars a person?

  2. what are the phone numbers/contact info of the main tzedaka organizations there? preferably with american/canadian contacts.

  3. Hand shmura matzoh is upward of $20.00 a lb…it’s a disgrace…if everyone would buy 5 lbs less the $100.00 could be donated to those in need and at the same time make a statement. Imagine how much tzedakah could be collected and poor family’s helped

  4. hashem is showing us that the only that and will provide breath for us so too hashem is the only one that can provide us witht he money needed to make pesach. But we must ask him. Hashem will overturn tables for his children but hashem just wants us to ask only him and no human then hashem will guide the human amen

  5. Nice article yechiel, but tell us WHERE to send our money to help these yiden have a chag sameach. It is not too late to call a credit card number in and then they can buy food to distribute.

  6. Living in Israel (and getting a $s salary), I see and feel the difficult economic situation with my own eyes. There are families around here who don’t know what sliced cheese tastes like.

On the other hand, I must tell you that one thing I cannot understand is that there are so many organizations helping the poor and Torah families, that there is a lot of duplication. In Kiryat Sefer alone, there are 5 funds that I know of. One major organisation would be far more beneficial, and less expensive to run.

  7. Since when does a Jew rely on the Zionist government to survive? They’d rather strangle all chareidim than assist them.

The only solution is for all chareidim to find a job and work, so that they will have a proper income, like I have. I work 43 hours per week and earn about NIS 7000, on average.
