Social work and sociology students at Ben-Gurion University in the Negev on Sunday held a unique model seder in the relatively poor Daled neighborhood of the southern city.
A long table was set up, but the plates were filled with sand instead of food and a new hagadah was created for the event, addressing the government and the Pesach call to invite “all those who are hungry to come and eat,” explaining in this part of town, many remain hungry with nothing to eat.
The students are calling upon the government to meet its responsibility to the people, and not permit non-profits to take over the government’s responsibility.
Students reject the new term that was coined recently in poverty report, referring to the undernourished and impoverished at “nutritionally challenged” in an effort to mask the painful realities. They referred to the government as one of the Four Sons, the wicked son, who as far as they are concerned fails to fulfill his responsibilities to citizens.
