Lieberman Verbally Attacked Exiting Shiva House of Slain Chareidi Soldier

Former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman was verbally attacked by a group of Chareidim when he was exiting a shiva house after comforting the family of a Chareidi soldier who was killed in the Givat Assaf terror attack. The attackers, associate themselves with one of the more extreme groups of Charedim in Yerushalayim.

Lieberman came to the neighborhood of Makor Baruch in Yerushalayim where the Meirav family was sitting shiva over Yosef Haim, a soldier in the Netzach Yehuda brigade. During his visit, a young man began shouting at Lieberman for his actions to encourage Chareidm to enlist while he was Defense Minister.

The young man was silenced quickly by others at the Shiva house. However, as Lieberman was leaving, he was confronted by a number of extremists who lay in wait for the politician on the street. They began shouting at and harassing Lieberman. “You are worse than those who killed him,” was just one of the mantras thrown at Lieberman during the incident. Another was: “One who causes a person to sin is worse than one who kills him”.

Lieberman’s security detail was quick to intervene and get the former minister into his vehicle. The vehicle quickly started up and sped off and out of the neighborhood.

  1. i would call it well deserved mussar, rather than “verbal abuse” (maybe its the spirit of the times to call mussar verbal abuse)
the “One who causes a person to sin is worse than one who kills him” comment, happenes to be 100% true and certainly pertains to lieberman, which was evident after last years chilull shabbos fiasco.
as for the “You are worse than those who killed him,” comment, i wouldnt know if thats true but if they think its true, kol hakovod (i certainly woulndt think lieberman is included in עמיתך )

  2. Part of the price of free speech is that stupid people get to say disgusting things. Most people in the public domain learn how to live with this. As former POTUS Harry Truman said about this: “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!”
