It was six months ago when Israel’s High Court of Justice granted the state a six-month extension to legislate a new Conversion Law to permit sufficient time to study the recommendations of the state committee headed by Moshe Nissim. Israel’s Chief Rabbi and former Chief Rabbis were among those who spoke out strongly against the committee’s recommendations.
Now, the government plans to request yet another six-month extension, when it comes before the High Court again on Monday, 9 Teves, since a new law has yet to be legislated.
Leading the opposition to the committee’s recommendations is Shas party chairman Minister Aryeh Deri, as those recommendations were met with harsh disapproval among Gedolei Yisrael Shlita.
Numerous organizations have petitioned the High Court, calling for recognition of Reform Movement converts. MK (Yesh Atid) Elazar Stern originally backed this support for the recommendations, but later withdrew his support as he insists it was amended to accommodate the chareidim.
Chareidi MKs are obviously tenaciously opposed to such a reality, as well as being firmly opposed to the state committee’s recommendations, which they insist will lead to increase assimilation other related halachic issues.

Do they want to turn the so called “Jewish State” into state of non-jews and mamzeirim mixed with kosher Yidden R”L.
This is not an attack against the chareidim it’s an attack against the State of Israel worse then Hamas & Hizbolla together R”L!
Yes, David, they do. As the Lubavitcher Rebbe said, this is a matter of כתבו לכם על קרן השור. They want to erase the entire concept of המבדיל בין ישראל לעמים.
