The first meeting of the new Tiveria City Council is scheduled for Tuesday, 3 Teves, and it appears that while they did not unite during elections, the chareidim and dati leumi factions are uniting now, against the mayor and his council in the hope of creating a bloc against the coalition.
At first the council members asked to postpone the meeting of the council that was planned for Tuesday, but the request was turned down. The official reason for the request was a memorial to the mother of Shas chairman Eliyahu Zigdon. The mayor is expected to hold the meeting despite the request of the members of most of the factions.
The members of the council succeeded in creating a bloc in which nine members of the various factions, including Eliyahu Zigdon, Pinchas Vaknin, Yossi Ben David, Raphael Terbelsi, Avi Ben-Chamo, David Ochana, Dudik Azoulai, Menashe Ben David and Michael Lehrer. In the coalition of Mayor Ron Kobi, there are only six members of his party for now.
Kikar Shabbos News adds that persons connected to Mayor Kobi explain, it is possible to run a city without a coalition and with a legal permit for a year.
At the council meeting on Tuesday, , Kobi will try to raise the appointment of members to senior positions such as planning and construction, finance, education, etc., but he will encounter the opposition of most of the those mentioned earlier.
It should be noted that the opinion of the rabbonim of Tiveria, that at this stage they remain opposed to entering the coalition of Ron Kobi this in view of the Chilul Shabbos in the city supported by the mayor, as well as his position on many religious matters, which are unacceptable to the rabbonim.
