A 50-year-old worker was buried alive under rubble after a portion of a factory in the northern Jerusalem Atarot Industrial Park collapsed, a cement wall, apparently from the intensity of the rainfall over the weekend. The fire department arrived, including rescue personnel using trained dogs to assist in locating the trapped worker, working late into the night to reach the victim. They finally were able to find him during the early morning hours, but it was too late to save him. He was pronounced dead on the location.
The rescue was carried out using specialized rescue tools and surgical precision in order not to cause a secondary collapse on the firefighters and other emergency forces. The medical team said that the part of the collapsed factory was built illegally, and police opened an investigation into the incident and detained have detained owner of the factory.
