On Monday, Israel began Operation Northern Shield which was aimed at destroying the terror tunnels built by Lebanon-based terror organization Hezbollah. On the very first day of the operation, the IDF released footage of a Hezbollah terrorist walking through one of the underground tunnels. Once the operative came close to the device that carried both a camera and a bomb, the device self-destructed and sent the terrorist running.
On Thursday, the terrorist in question was identified as Izz a-Din Pahas, a senior Hezbollah member who commands its recon and tunnel unit. The identification was published by I24 news. Pachas has a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from a university in Tehran.
One terror tunnel unearthed by the IDF on Tuesday began in the southern portion of the Lebanese town of Kafr Kela and heads south before crossing over into Israeli territory. This tunnel is in breach of the ceasefire agreement of 2006 and of the United Nations resolution regarding the ceasefire.
On Shabbos, the IDF discovered a second tunnel from Lebanon leading into Israel.
