ARRESTED: Suspect in Friday Night Assault of Hasidic Man in Williamsburg; Charged With Hate Crime

The NYPD has made an arrest in the Friday night attack against a Hasidic man in Williamsburg.

Sources tell YWN that suspect turned himself in at the precinct and was taken into custody on Tuesday.

The suspect has been identified as Enrique Gerena, 32, of Willoughby Ave in Brooklyn. He has 5 prior arrests.

He has been charged with a Hate Crime/Assault in the 3rd degree.

As reported on YWN, the victim was walking home from Shul with his young son and had stopped to talk to another man in the area of 68 Throop Avenue, when a man approached one of them from behind and punched the 33-year-old victim in the back of the head. Police say the suspect yelled a word that sounded like “BLAH”. The suspect then fled on foot southbound on Throop Avenue. The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the attack.

The attack comes less than a week after a Hasidic child was attacked just a block away, breaking his nose as he was shoved to the ground. The suspect in that attack remains on the loose.

  1. Not really a hate crime. He’s just mentally unstable. His best friends are Jews. He just hates the occupation.
    We’ve heard them all…..
