Because over the last 50 years the Democrats have become increasingly anti-religious, while the Republicans are increasingly welcoming to peoples of all religions. If the Democrats regard people who “clink to religion” to be “deplorables” (taking the words of their most recent national candidates, in context), don’t be shocked that the Democrats have problem attracting non-secular voters. Fifty years ago this was not the case.
