Outgoing IDF Official Speaks Out Against Bennet For Criticizing The Gaza Ceasefire

Outgoing IDF Deputy Chief of Staff Major-General Yair Golan spoke out strongly on Thursday against Bayit Yehudi party chairman Minister Naftali Bennett, who is also a member of the Security Cabinet.

In an interview with Radio 103 FM, Golan spoke about Bennet’s statements against the government pertaining to the decision to exercise restraint following the last round of Hamas warfare, which included the firing some 400 plus rockets into Israel in a 24-hour period.

Golan said, “it’s unfortunate” regarding Bennet’s statements, adding “He is weakening the IDF and it is unfortunate he spoke as he did,” pointing out Bennet’s statements may have advanced him politically but it is unfortunate that someone in his position spoke out against the government as he did. Golan feels that at present, opting to exercise restraint was the right move, and that the decision to go in militarily and take Hamas down, launching a major military incursion into Gaza, must be weighed and left to the politicians to decide.

Regarding the 2014 IDF counter-terrorism operation in Gaza known as Protective Edge, he felt the operation failed because it did not deliver a stern enough message against Hamas.

He concluded “Our ability to influence Iranian consolidation in Syria is moderate-to-low. The Iranians are also present in Syria beyond the military dimension”

  1. Golan the Israeli people would like clarification how exactly the terrorist problem is not growing bigger when every year more and more terrorists are joining their ranks? Also please explain how a government and army can let their citizens be attacked every few weeks? This is insanity.
