Chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee (Likud) MK Avi Dichter held a session to discuss security matters on Monday morning, a session attended by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who is also acting Defense Minister.
As Mr. Dichter points out, Mr. Netanyahu now wears several hats, including prime minister, defense minister and foreign minister.
Dichter opened the meeting saying, “Mr. Prime Minister, I think that the committee has broken records in the past, but I have not yet received a review from the prime minister, the defense minister and the foreign minister in one review, and only two weeks ago we sent you a new list of discussion points and there have been dramatic changes in the past week. Except for one thing, meeting with heads of state in recent months, everything else has been reversed, and we would like to hear about all this in the confidential discussion later on”
“One, about meetings with heads of state in recent months, everything else has been reversed, and we would like to hear about all this in the secret discussion later on.”
Prime Minister: “I entered the post of defense minister yesterday, and I met with IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gadi Eizenkott and the appointed chief of staff, Major-General Aviv Kochavi.
“As I said last night, we are in a battle that has not yet ended. In such a sensitive period of security, it is irresponsible to topple the government.
“Whether our partners do this or not, we will continue to act to ensure the security of our country and the security of our citizens. We will do so with all sense, responsibility and determination.
I trust the IDF, the security forces and the citizens of Israel, and together we will be able to challenge and secure Israel’s security.”
