As Klal Yisrael is busy cleaning and preparing for Pesach, at the Kosel workers are clearing the kvitlach that have accumulated since Rosh Hashanah. The twice annual clearing of kvitlach is also an opportunity for engineers to inspect the integrity of the stones to make certain nothing is dangerously loose. The kvitlach removed from the holy site are buried, not disposed of.

Someone should check this out and correct the story. Thusday with be the SEOND day of Chol Hamoed in Israel. Shabbos will be the fourth day.
Sorry about the typos. Please correct earlier comment to read ‘Thursday will be the SECOND day’. Thanks.
The fourth day chol hamoed in Eretz Yisrael is shabbos. I don’t think it will be then.
Getting the kosel cleaned up this week is especially important given that the President will be in Yerushalayim in a few days. The last thing we would want to happen would be to have the President injured by some falling kvitalch placed there by Romney when he came by last summer before the eleciton.
