NBC New York reports the following:
Mayor Bloomberg wants stores to hide cigarettes behind counters, curtains or cabinets as part of his next anti-smoking effort.
The billionaire former smoker has made anti-tobacco efforts a major part of his mayoralty and private philanthropy.
Bloomberg banned smoking in bars and restaurants during his first term, a move that was not common at the time. He has also donated hundreds of millions to programs that seek to curb smoking around the world.
The law would apply to retail stores and requires City Council approval. The bill will be introduced on Wednesday.

this will help a lot seeing how smokers will still have to go to the counter and ask for the cig’s. unlike today where the smoker has to go to the counter and ask for the cig’s
what is going on with bloomberg, is he bored or just wants to leave with a huge bang and show us new yorkers that he is truly nuts? every other day he comes up with another insane idea!!! is he upset that he has to leave office and this is his way of retaliating?
The nanny state continues. Remember!! Big Brother knows best!!
How about a curtain in front of the magazine section which causes spiritual cancer.
Statistically, if it’s not “in your face”, you have less of a desire/urge to purchase cigarettes as a teen/young adult – just like alcohol.
I am FAR from being a “Gloomberg” fan but this is one idea where he may end up having my support.
So now you have a problem with the chumera of the week?
#4 what you are saying is correct, the difference is cigarettes can physically kill you. The magazines can ruin a marriage, ruin you spiritually, etc, but will not physically kill you.
